our mission
Corra Films was founded in 1994 by filmmaker Henry Corra, a protégé of documentary pioneer David Maysles. Under Henry’s direction, we are a passionate ensemble of New York’s most innovative filmmakers, editors, photographers, musicians, sound engineers, designers, casting directors, writers, and producers.
Our films are seen by millions around the world: in theaters, on television, in museums, and streaming online. From original, genre-bending, award-winning non-fiction features to our collaborations with iconic global brands, Corra Films is dedicated to the art of non-fiction filmmaking. We find and help unique individuals tell their stories in ways that our audiences can immediately identify with. We bring human connection.
Since my tenure in the 1990’s directing and producing alongside cinéma verité pioneers David and Albert Maysles (GREY GARDENS, GIMME SHELTER), I’ve devoted my life to a more immersive approach to non-fiction filmmaking that I call "living cinema." Observational documentaries create a distance from the characters that great fiction does not. Fiction writers get inside the consciousness of their characters so, ironically, fiction becomes the more “real” experience. In my work, I strive to identify with the people I’m filming as completely as I can, translating that consciousness into the finished films. By inhabiting the lives of others we might glimpse pieces of our own - Henry Corra
